The Manchester Youth Development Center Gala is held every other year and designed to be a reunion of old friends, alumni and cultivating new acquaintances who care about and contribute to helping the children in our community reach their fullest potential.
James Richey, Owner, Richey’s Barbershop
James Richey was born in Coden, Alabama to the late Oscar and Adeline Richey. He and his six siblings moved to Pittsburgh, Pa in the early 1950’s. He attended Manchester Elementary, Conroy Junior High and graduated from Oliver High School where he was an avid football player. After serving in the U.S. Army he entered the Pittsburgh Barbering School on Federal Street and received his barbering license.In late 1960’s, he began his career as a barber and opened his shop at 1207 North Franklin Street, formerly known as Henderson’s Barber Shop.
James has served the Manchester Community for over 40 years in that same establishment and many of those years with fellow barber, Thomas Worthy. He has trained many young barbers and some have since established their own businesses. He provides services for men that include cutting hair, trimming beards, mustaches and sideburns as well as shaving, shampooing and giving facials. His service also provides haircuts and eye brow shaping for female clients, hair cuts for children and home-care service for the sick and shut-ins. James is a faithful and staunch supporter of the Manchester Community and has given of his time, talent and financial support.
